Foodbank use doubles compared to last year

A Jersey church group is preparing to cope with even more demand for emergency food supplies in the months leading up to Christmas.

One local foodbank says the number of people coming to it for help almost doubled this month, compared to the same time last year.

It comes as a UK charity predicts there’ll be a 61% rise in the need for food parcels across the country between now and Christmas.

Richard Nunn, from the Salvation Army in Jersey, told the BBC: “We’re working hard to fight inequality but also to meet need where we find it.”
